Obstacles

💡
Remember, Jen wanted to be interviewed as a user (low research maturity in the org)
Hi @Don Yeo and @Jen Chia, understand you had a dept meeting with Amanda, Aziyah and Lyne and are proposing changes to the research sessions with MWs. It sounds like there are a number of things you are rightly concerned about, including MW fatigue due to long interviews and also potentially timeline.
To address your concerns, I’d like to have a 1hr session with you and anyone else interested, so we can: i) Explain why our research was structured in this way, and how that affected the decisions we made (e.g. why the sessions are so long) ii) Understand your concerns about the timeline and any other issues iii) Align on what are priorities are for the remaining sessions, and tailor the research accordingly, while being aware of the trade-offs if we do less research iv) [If we have time] I’ll go through some of the insights from the generative research (open-ended discussions with MWs)
Design research is all about trade-offs. If we do less research, or change the methodology (e.g. from 1-1 interviews to group interviews), we will be running the risk of making unvalidated assumptions about how MWs may interact with the app, which may impact its success. For example, if we cut down the session time to 1 hour and also reduce the number of sessions, it will become difficult to test some of the feature concepts we have with MWs, so we’re operating in the unknown about whether MWs will use these features.
In some cases, we have to make a strategic decision to run with unvalidated assumptions. That said, it’s our responsibility to make sure everyone is aware of the assumptions we are making. This way, even after this project ends, the project team can build in the research time into the backlog to ensure that those assumptions are tested through research.
When would be a good time for both of you?
